Yet Another Black Blazer

Two years ago when I bought my fitted Juicy black blazer with velvet lapels, I thought I was done with this staple. One good quality one is all I thought I'd need. But then this other black blazer popped up on the rack and it had gorgeous silk mini ruffles on the neck collar and black subtle pinstripes AND it was 70% off. I couldn't resist. Then this summer, there was this super fitted dark gray (with a hint of sparkle), 3/4 sleeved blazer with this to die for fancy double layered collar thing also on sale- I had to have it. So really, one can reasonably conclude that I've reached my quota for black blazers. For the record, I have had great mileages for all of them- so they were all completely worth it. Unfortunately recently, I find my eyes wandering again in the black blazer arena.......  read more »

Recently, however, she has bypassed popular styles such as last fall's Gucci Indy bag and the ubiquitous Fendi 'B' bag in favor of unadorned pieces from Bottega Veneta and lesser-known labels such as New York's MZ Wallace.  read more »

Good Things Come to Those Who ELLE

If this isn't the most exciting news that I've heard in a long time, then, well, someone sack Carine Roitfeld. UK ELLE Magazine has secured Discotheque Confusion's resident girl crush Chloe Sevigny as their "style advisor", and to promote this will be March's covergirl. Er, "Style Advisor". I know, it's easy to think this is just one of those labels handed out willy nilly just like Jessica Simpson and Lauren Conrad are fashion designers. But this is Chloe Sevigny, and Lorraine Candy, ELLE's ed is quick to defend this label. Style advisor is not just a title - shell really be doing it, she has a column. She is not someone whos instantly recognisable - she couldnt go on a Glamour or Cosmopolitan cover, she could only go on an Elle cover to be honest. But what were saying with this [signing] is that this magazine is about fashion and style - and next month weve got someone who the author Jay McInerney once called the most stylish girl in the world on the cover. ELLE magazine are seriously branching out, and this is one wise move, showing themselves to have more pounds worth of quirk than Vogue ever will posess (I know, it isn't hard). Granted, they'll never ever stand alongside the likes of Tank, Lula, Wonderland, i-D, or 10 magazine, but in my opinion, ELLE is the most innotive and creative "mainstream" fashion magazine out there. I don't know about you, but everything starting with their layouts just gives me the hots.  read more »

What I Really Want To Do Is Design - Celebrity Clothing Lines LA Magazine Article

Part I ---Quote--- They can?t sketch, drape, or sew, but celebrities do have opinions on fashion. How clothing lines went from dowdy to dynamite for a new flock of A-listers She?s always late,? says Rigoberto Casillas. The fey 22-year-old with bleached blond hair and a Spanish accent had woken up at 3 a.m. to drive from Temecula to the South Coast Plaza Macy?s to wait for Paris Hilton?s appearance in February. His T-shirt bears the likeness of his idol, and his hoodie, which is also from the heiress?s sportswear line, is printed with the Old English lettering favored by gangs and rappers. At such events you expect to see suburban kids like Casillas. You don?t count on a 58-year-old woman buying Hilton?s $79 leopard-print ?Glitzy Cheetah?  read more »

Elle magazine seems to have found itself ... [Between The Covers]

ellevandalism42508.pngElle magazine seems to have found itself the victim of a pretty cruel prank. Ginormous "RETRACTION" stickers have been placed over the May story "The Believers", which turns a very critical eye on radical eco-activists and their practices. (These activists are most likely the perps behind the sticker crimes themsleves.) And while no one from Elle has yet to confirm anything with the Nina Garcia story, a spokesperson was able to verify that, indeed, the magazine is investigating the situation.  read more »

Nina Garcia Said to Be Out at Elle

Published: Friday, April 11, 2008
By Stephanie Smith
Elle is said to have parted company with its fashion director and ?Project Runway? star and author Nina Garcia sources said late Friday.

Neither Garcia, Elle editor in chief Robbie Myers nor a spokeswoman for Elle could be reached for comment.

On Tuesday, Elle hosted a dinner with Moschino to celebrate Simon Doonan's new book, "Eccentric Glamour: Creating an Insanely More Fashionable You", but Garcia was notably absent.  read more »

Speculation about Garcia's departure has swirled for months, especially after the arrival of Joe Zee at the beginning of 2007 as creative director. Last spring, Garcia left the magazine on maternity leave, and began writing a monthly fashion column for Elle upon her return. Garcia was in the office on Friday morning, but by the afternoon, sources close to the building say Hachette?s Midtown offices were abuzz about the rumor.
