This week's Designer Q & A is with Jim Boldes, Owner and Technical Designer of Red Engine Jeans . 1) Why do you think after 200 years jeans are still one of the most popular items of clothing? Denim is neutral, and a perfect foundation. Denim, at its best, is uncomplicated yet makes a statement. you get to choose the degree and impact of the statement based on personal choice. 2) Last time I counted there were over 50 brands of premium denim jeans, what makes your jeans stand out from the rest? read more »
The Chloe Saskia bag Love it because: Chloe hasn’t designed a must have bag since, arguably, the Chloe Bay bag , but I think theyre back on track with the Chloe Saskia bag. Already available as a tote, small tote, accordion tote, satchel, bowler and square tote, the Saskia mixes every day versatility with vintage appeal. Bringing together the best of a few must-have bags into one alluring tote. The front pockets hark towards the appeal of the Mulberry Roxanne , while the subtle curves gives it a nice bohemian attitude, off set with its boxy shape topped with a glossy appeal in the Perspex handle, shoulder strap and brass Chloe tag. It’s currently available in black, tan, turquoise, white, teal, yellow, red and taupe. read more »
If this isn't the most exciting news that I've heard in a long time, then, well, someone sack Carine Roitfeld. UK ELLE Magazine has secured Discotheque Confusion's resident girl crush Chloe Sevigny as their "style advisor", and to promote this will be March's covergirl. Er, "Style Advisor". I know, it's easy to think this is just one of those labels handed out willy nilly just like Jessica Simpson and Lauren Conrad are fashion designers. But this is Chloe Sevigny, and Lorraine Candy, ELLE's ed is quick to defend this label. Style advisor is not just a title - shell really be doing it, she has a column. She is not someone whos instantly recognisable - she couldnt go on a Glamour or Cosmopolitan cover, she could only go on an Elle cover to be honest. But what were saying with this [signing] is that this magazine is about fashion and style - and next month weve got someone who the author Jay McInerney once called the most stylish girl in the world on the cover. ELLE magazine are seriously branching out, and this is one wise move, showing themselves to have more pounds worth of quirk than Vogue ever will posess (I know, it isn't hard). Granted, they'll never ever stand alongside the likes of Tank, Lula, Wonderland, i-D, or 10 magazine, but in my opinion, ELLE is the most innotive and creative "mainstream" fashion magazine out there. I don't know about you, but everything starting with their layouts just gives me the hots. read more »
I am like 2 weeks too late, but it would be a great shame for me to skip over the Chloe collection, a brand which I'll always have a soft spot for. It would also be a shame to miss this collection, because this is Hannah MacGibbon's first collection at the helm of Chloe. Mr.Toledo finally gave the boot to Paulo Melim Andersson, who's aesthetics was clearly at odds with the classic Chloe girl. I shudder thinking about the last collection. read more »

The Preen team The couple behind Britain's hottest label*Alice Fisher Sunday May 18, 2008 The Observer (http://www.observer.co.uk/)* Preen is a funny name for Preen, when you think about it. The verb suggests excessive self-love or self-satisfaction, and there couldn't be a less apt description of Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, the duo behind the label, or of their designs. The London label has gone from strength to strength in the past 12 years, a success story that is due to sales, rather than the sort of sponsorship deals that keep most small designers solvent. read more »
There is life yet for Chloe Sevigny's Opening Ceremony collection.
While on Topshop, we came across their new Post-War Precision collection (originally called the Valerie Collection, though we don't know why they changed the name). Topshop describes it as "1950s pin-up styling with a rockabilly twist", but between the checkered pieces, acid wash jean jacket and ditsy floral print dresses we thought "We Wish We Were Chloe Sevigny" would have been a more apt description. read more »
After almost two weeks of horrible weather, Los Angeles is back to its sunny self. That's all I needed to start feeling springy and ready to hit the stores. Along with my husband (whom I admire for his patience), I...TheShoeGoddesshttp://www.theshoegoddess.net
I saved the image of this yellow t-shirt dress by See by Chloe (from the Cruise collection) when it was still online a few months ago. It's bright, casual and looked like such a fun, easy-to-wear dress for the summer. I never managed to see it in real life but it got me looking out for tee shirt dresses. read more »

Designer Charles Anastase has won the hearts of girls who like their clothes on the right side of girly with his series of memorable shows at the Hot Crillon in Paris. I spoke to him during preparations for his first show at London Fashion Week in September. Richard Mortimer: OK, Charles. We have to be properly serious now. RM: Yes, you can keep your sunglasses on! Tell me how you would explain your label to somebody who didn?t know about it? |
